RS issues Rules for Classification and Construction of remotely operated vehicles
The document came into effect from 1 January 2023
Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) has issued the Rules for the Classification and Construction of remotely operated vehicles (ROV Rules). The document effective from 1 January 2023 has been published in the RS Publications section of RS official website.
ROV Rules define the scope of technical requirements of autonomous and remotely operated vehicles weighing 10 kg and more for obtaining an RS Class. Apart from RS specialists, the working group engaged in development of the requirements included representatives of United Shipbuilding Corporation and design bureaus “Rubin” and “Malachite”. The work on ROV Rules had been conducted from April 2021.
According to Aleksey Filippov, Head of the Department for Technical Supervision in Industry, “RS has always strived to promote advanced technical initiatives in shipbuilding and shipping. The cooperation with the leading enterprises in the industry lets us find the best competent solutions and opportunities for further development and growth. Fruitful interaction within the working group allowed for creation of the regulatory framework required for the safe practical application of the existing remotely operated vehicles, as well as for the development, production and operation of promising high-tech marine robotics facilities.”
