Rosterminalugol performs scheduled activities on recovery of aquatic bioresources
The stevedore released newly farmed Atlantic salmon into the natural waters
Rosterminalugol JSC, operator of the largest coal terminal in Russia’s European part, has conducted scheduled activities on recovery of aquatic bioresources in the coastal ecosystem of the Baltic Sea. The stevedoring company released 300 Atlantic salmons into the natural waters. The salmon was farmed at Luga based facility within the North-West branch of FSBI Glavrybvod, says the stevedore.
In a year, salmon will leave the Luga river for the Gulf of Finland and in 2-4 years will return to Luga for spawning. Thus this type of fish recovery is underway in the Baltic Sea where it is being caught actively by fishing companies.
Rosterminalugol JSC is an environmentally responsible company. It undertakes similar measures every year. “The company is focused on ecology, hence high environmental standards applied. Rosterminalugol JSC (port Ust-Luga, Leningrad Region) is the largest dedicated coal terminal in Russia’s European part. In 2021, the terminal handled 24.4 million tonnes of coal.
Rosterminalugol is fitted the most advanced equipment including covered railcar dumpers and heaters, stackers and reclaimers, covered container lines and transfer stations, transborders and shiploading machines. The terminal features covered stations for unloading and transfer of coal, conveyor equipment, rotary car dumpers, shiploaders and the second-to-none system of multi-stage magnetic coal separation.
The terminal’s compliance with both Russian and international requirements on environmental risk management is confirmed by ISO 14001:2015 certificate “Environmental Management System: Requirements and Application Guide.” Environmental safety at the terminal is ensured by the systems of aspiration, dust suppression, sprinkling, snow generation, and water treatment. Further modernization of the terminal is underway.
