Rosneft’s Syzran Refinery starts production of low-sulphur fuel
RMLS 40 is a fuel with sulfur content not exceeding 0.5% fully complying with MARPOL
The Syzran Refinery, a part of Rosneft Oil Company’s refining complex, has commenced the production of the environmentally-friendly low-sulphur marine fuel RMLS 40, which is compliant with the IMO requirements effective since the early 2020, Rosneft says in a press release.
The fuel contains no more than 0.5% of sulphur which is fully compliant with the requirements of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL). The use of this fuel for bunkering minimizes the negative impact on the environment.
High environmental standards of operation are the key element of the Rosneft-2022 Strategy. In order to reduce its environmental impact and produce up-to-date, environmentally friendly fuels, the Company has initiated and is implementing a number of large-scale projects to upgrade its own production facilities.
The production of green marine fuel demonstrates the advanced technological capacity of the Company’s refineries.
In Q1 2020, the Company supplied 112,000 tonnes of RMLS 40 type E II fuel to domestic and foreign ship-owners. Demand for ecological marine fuel RMLS 40 indicates high quality of the product.
In April, RN-Bunker expanded the marketing geography of the RMLS 40 low-sulphur residual fuel. In addition to the Far East, the Company began supplying environmentally friendly marine fuel to the Black Sea, Arctic and Baltic ports.
Residual Marine Low Sulphur (RMLS 40) is a new product in Rosneft’s product line of low-sulphur residual marine fuels. In terms of sulphur content, RMLS 40 is divided into 2 types: E I, with sulphur content up to 0.1%, and E II, with sulphur content up to 0.5%. Product is produced at the Komsomolsk, Achinsk, Syzran and Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim hub refineries
The Company is ready to offer consumers a wide range of low-sulphur marine fuels, which fully comply with new international requirements.
The technology for green marine fuels compliant with the relevant Russian standards and the prospective foreign ones is developed by the Rosneft Corporate Research and Development Complex.
Syzran Refinery, a subsidiary of Rosneft Oil Company, produces a wide range of high-quality petroleum products, including motor gasoline and diesel fuels of highest emission standard, jet fuels, bitumen.
A large-scale modernization program is currently underway at the refinery to improve the conversion rate and to get the best out of usage of the secondary processes for light oil product recovery enhancement.
