Swedish businesses informed about benefits of Latvian transport corridor
At the beginning of December, the management of the Freeport of Riga and several port operators participated in the Latvian Transport Days in Sweden. Together with Latvijas Dzelzeļš, Ventspils port and Liepāja port, they met with Swedish transportation and logistics companies in Stockholm and Gothenburg and presented various benefits that the Latvian transport corridor can offer to handle cargo flows between Latvia and the Scandinavian countries, Freeport of Riga says in a press release.
Alongside Latvian logistics companies, representatives of the Belarus railway company also participated in the transport days, making it possible to offer potential cooperation partners a much wider perspective on the Eastern-Northern transport corridor.
During this event, which took place at the embassy of Latvia in Sweden, a roundtable discussion was held. Various Swedish logistics, manufacturing, and services companies, as well as port operators were invited to participate. Furthermore, the Latvian delegation visited Scania and Volvo in Gothenburg, studied the Port of Södertälje, and had a meeting with the management of the Scandinavian logistics company Nordicon.
“There was a lot of discussion about problems and prospects to ensure regular and commercially profitable transportation from Scandinavia and Northern Europe and/or the Far East (China), as well as Belarusian and Russian markets (the Western part) by rail,” underlines Ansis Zeltiņš, the CEO of the Freeport of Riga, who was enthusiastic about the opportunity to present the joint offering of the Latvian transit sector and rail transport operators from Belarus.
To generate new leads and customers, and to develop services of the Latvian transport corridor between Latvia and the Scandinavian region, the Latvian Transport Days in Sweden were organised by Latvijas Dzelzceļš in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Sweden, LIAA Representation Office and the largest Latvian ports.
