Port of Gdansk Authority welcomes Port of Baku delegation
Delegates representing the Port of Baku met with representatives of the Port of Gdansk Authority at the Port Master's Office at Gdansk's Port Polnocny. The talks focused on their planned cooperation, says press center of the Port of Gdansk Authority.
The February meeting at the Port of Gdansk was attended by Doctor Taleh Ziyadov, Managing Director of the Port of Baku, Vahid Aliyev, Assistant Managing Director of the Port of Baku, and Zaur Hasanov, PR Director at the Port of Baku. The meeting took place in the "gondola" on top of the Port Master's Office, where Lukasz Greinke, President of the PGA, and Lukasz Stajuda of PZU LAB received the Azeri.
The visit started with talks about the shape of the planned agreement between the Port of Baku and the Port of Gdansk. After the meeting at Port Polnocny, the delegation went on a tour of the port premises (including DCT Gdansk, the Duty Free Zone, and the Pomeranian Logistics Centre).
"Cooperation with the Port of Baku is important to us. It would make it possible to expand the range of the Port of Gdansk's transport options by including the Caspian Sea basin. This is yet another step towards further development and another chance for the Polish economy," explains Lukasz Greinke, President of the PGA.
The meeting at the Port of Gdansk was part of a three-day visit of the representatives of the Port of Baku to Poland. The delegation was co-organised by the Ministry of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation.
A tour of Gdansk's Old Town was also planned for that day. The agenda for the next day included the delegates' visit to Slawkow and talks concerning cooperation with the representatives of its terminal.
Baku is the largest and oldest seaport in the Caspian Sea. The Azerbaijani government keeps working on its development. The investments and modernisations undertaken there are aimed at making the Port of Baku Azerbaijan's main sea gateway, as well as an important transit and logistics hub situated along the ancient Silk Road. The completion of the investments at this Azerbaijani port is supposed to enable transshipments at the level of 25 million tonnes a year.
