Port of Gdansk considered as transport hub for Slovakia
Polish Ports for Slovak entities - is the central theme of the Polish Day of the Sea - the sea transport section during this year's 8th International Scientific Conference CMDTUR 2018 organised by the University of Zilina.
According to the Port of Gdansk Authority, the conference is addressed to entities and individuals connected with the transport industry. Polish ports have been a commercial gateway to the Baltic Sea for the Slovak industry for years. The panel discussion was primarily focused on cooperation opportunities, the expectations of both sides, potential problems and prospects for the development of business relations. The conference attracted both representatives of the business sector and research workers.
Its high transshipment capacity and modern infrastructure make the Port of Gdansk a key transport hub for Central Europe. During the discussion, particular attention was drawn to the growing number of regular links and the increase in transshipments, resulting in the highest growth dynamics among European ports. For its south-eastern neighbours, the Port of Gdansk constitutes a gateway to Asian markets, because it is the only port in the Baltic Sea handling transoceanic container ships from China with a load capacity of over 21,000 TEU.
"We are also responding to the market demand of those countries which have no access to the sea. On account of its location, the Port of Gdansk is a crucial hub, with countries constituting its natural hinterland in terms of transit handling including Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Belarus, and northern Ukraine," says Lukasz Greinke, President of the Board at the Port of Gdansk Authority SA.
The countries under market coverage of the Port of Gdansk comprises a market with at least 100 million consumers. It is anticipated that, considering the upcoming investments, including the construction of the Central Port, it will become the port of choice for sea transport for countries such as Slovakia.
The Polish Day of the Sea at the University of Zilina was held under the patronage of the Polish Chamber of Maritime Commerce, the Polish Embassy in Bratislava, and the Slovak-Polish Chamber of Commerce.
