Port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 3.86 million tonnes of cargo in 6M'18, up 18.2% Y-o-Y
Freight volume handled in the Port of Liepaja, Latvia in January-June 2018 climbed by 18.2%, year-on-year, to 3,868,600 tonnes, the Port Authority says.
In the reporting period, transshipment of grain grew by 52.6% to 1,716,700 tonnes, construction materials – by 22% to 329,500 tonnes while transshipment of oil products fell by 19% to 177,700 tonnes.
Container traffic fell by 123% to 1,646 TEUs, handling of Ro-Ro cargo grew by 17% to 20,002 units.
The number of calls grew by 5% to 762, passenger traffic increased by 25% to 20,034 passengers.
Port of Liepaja was founded in the 90s of last century at the former Soviet Union’s naval base. Liepaja ranks third port of Latvia by handled cargo volume. Half of the port’s cargo throughput is fueled by crude oil and bulk cargoes imported from the CIS countries, largely from Belorussia. In 2017, throughput of Liepaja port was 6.59 million tonnes.
