LNG Conference in Helsinki to focus on LNG supply, demand and its role as marine fuel
Supply and demand, staying competitive as an industry, supply chain logistics and its role as marine fuel – the upcoming LNG Conference 2018 will cover everything that is relevant to the topic of LNG in Europe and the Baltic region, say the organizers. The event, hosted by Port of Helsinki and Tallink, will be held on 7-8/6/2018 at the Helsinki City Hall and onboard Tallink’s “Megastar” ferry.
The event, divided into two days, will tackle a wide spectrum of topics currently relevant to the development of the LNG market in Europe and the Baltic, while at the same time taking into account the situation on the global scene. Technical innovations will once again be an important part of the discussion.
The opening session will set the stage for further discussions, with two excellent speakers sharing their knowledge and experience. Eero Vanaale, Principal Consultant at Royal Haskoning DHV, will touch upon key points relevant to the current market situation, while Mark Bell, General Manager at SGMF, is going to take a closer look at how LNG stacks up against other sustainable fuels and solutions.
Intricacies of the LNG supply chain will be the subject of the second session’s presentations. Ville Haapasaari, CEO of the Port of Helsinki and one of the hosts, is going to examine the need for LNG bunkering infrastructure and whether it can be considered a necessity. Following up, representatives from Skangas and Klaipedos nafta will talk about both small and large scale LNG operations. A subsequent discussion panel is planned to explore future uses for existing LNG infrastructure.
Innovation will be the name of the game during the session concluding the first day of the event. Valmet Automation is going to share how their DNA integrated operations system can lead to enhancing bunkering operations, while Chart Industries explore marine, road and power functionalities of LNG terminals and hubs.
The delegates will then board Tallink’s LNG fuelled “Megastar” ferry for the second day of the conference. LNG as marine fuel will be the focus of the day, beginning with an examination of the steps required to implement it as such on a global scale. Safety will be the main topic of a presentation by EMSA, taking the delegates step by step through their guidelines for LNG bunkering.
The day will also be filled with presentations by companies who have already accumulated a lot of experience related to working with LNG. Tallink, the day’s host, and Containerships are going to tackle the topic of LNG as marine fuel from the shipowner’s point of view. The topic will be further explored by representatives of GTT and Deltamarin, with the latter talking about the benefits and challenges of ship retrofitting in particular.
Nothing beats a hands-on experience and thanks to Tallink that’s exactly what the LNG Conference 2018 can offer its participants. The delegates will have the unique chance to tour the engine room and the bunkering station onboard Tallink’s innovative ferry – the “Megastar”.
The conference is supported by Port of Helsinki, Tallink, Skangas, GTT, Valmet Automation and Chart Industries and organized by the Actia Forum team with honorary patronage by the Baltic Ports Conference, GIE and SGMF.
