Port of Klaipeda seven-month volumes rose 2.9% to 23.9 million tonnes
Cargo traffice at the Lithuanian Port of Klaipeda in the January-July period grew by 2.9% on the same period a year earlier to 23.9 million tonnes, the Port Authority statistics showed.
In July shipments volume rose 2% y-o-y to 3.3 million tonnes. Handling of liquid bulk cargo increased by 3.9% to 882,860 tonnes, of general cargo – edged up 1.9% to 1.1 million tonnes, of dry bulk cargo – by 2.3% to 1.28 million tonnes.
The number of vessel calls in the seven-month period declined by 4.3% to 3,807 units. The port received 38 cruise vessels (+18.8%) with 41,841 passengers on board (+21.2%).
State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. Cargo throughput at the Port of Klaipeda in 2016 increased by almost 4% (y-o-y) to over 40 million tonnes.
