City of Bruges and Port of Zeebrugge invest in parking solution for trucks
In and around the port of Zeebrugge there is need for a designated space where truckdrivers can park with their trailers. Especially during the weekends, the lack of such a space has created nuisance for the people in Zeebrugge village and around the Transport Zone, the company said in its press release.
The port of Zeebrugge is planning to install a parking space with all the necessary facilities, south of the inner port of Zeebrugge, near the new A11 motorway which is still under construction.
The need for a parking space is however immediate and therefore the port has decided to open up a temporary parking site within the port. The port authority has consulted several transport companies in Zeebrugge and the Port of Zeebrugge's board of directors.
It has been decided that a part of the former CHZ terrains, east of the 'Loodswezenstraat' in Zeebrugge, can be used for this purpose temporarily. The grounds are ready to be used and there is running water and electricity supply nearby. The port authority has ordered several systems for check-in control like barriers and fences, as well as an automatic ticketing system to access to the parking site.
Once the parking site is fully operational, a parking ban for trucks on the Isabellalaan and the Kustlaan can be instated. The delivery of the installations will take up to three months, but the port authority is planning to allow parking on the site as from mid January.
