Freight throughput at Port of Tallinn drops 15% to 7.1 million tonnes in Jan-Apr
Cargo volumes handled in the Port of Tallinn, in Estonia between January and April 2016 fell by 15% year-on-year to 7,1 million tonnes, the Port Authority said.
In April, freight traffic decreased by 11% to 1.83 million tonnes. There was a decline in containers and liquid bulk cargo, while the volume of bulk and Ro-Ro cargoes increased.
In January-April 2016 the port handled 2.6 million passengers, which a 6% growth from a year earlier.
Port of Tallinn ranks third among largest seaport, next to St. Petersburg and Primorsk, on the Baltic Sea. The Port comprises five so-called port zones: Muuga, Old City Harbor, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2015 throughput at the port of Tallinn fell by 20.8% to 22.44 million tonnes.
