Throughput of port Liepaja (Latvia) up 8.6% to 477,800 t in Jan'16
In January 2016, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 477,800 t of cargo (+8.6%, year-on-year), the port authority told IAA PortNews.
Transshipment of grain fell by 4.9% to 258,400 t, construction materials – up 2.6 times to 47,900 t, timber – down 5.9% to 41,400 t, crude – up 2.6 times to 8,600 t, oil products – up 2.3 times to 30,300 t.
The port’s container throughput climbed by 4% to 173 TEUs. Transshipment of ro-ro cargo fell by 6% to 2,161 units. Passenger turnover fell by 15% to 2,318 passengers. The number of calls climbed by 9% to 111 calls.
The port of Liepaja established in 1990-ies is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries, mainly Belarus. In 2015, the port of Liepaja handled 5.61 mln tonnes of cargo.
