Navy names two sea going ice class tugs in honor of legendary Soviet ice hockey coaches (photo release)
An official naming ceremony for two seagoing tugs led by Russian Deputy Minister of Defense, Gen. Arkady Bakhin was held at Severomorsk based Northern Fleet base. The ceremony was timed to celebration of the 92nd anniversary of CSKA (Central Sports Army Club).
Tugboats of Project 02792 MB-134 and MB-135 were named "Viktor Tikhonov" and "Anatoly Tarasov," in honor of legendary Russian hokey coaches.
Nameplates were handed over to tug captains by Anatoly Tarasov's daughter, Merited Coach of the USSR Tatiana Tarasova and by former legendary stars of the Soviet national ice hockey team Boris Mikhailov and Vladimir Petrov.
Navy's sea-going ice-class sea-going tugboats "MB-134" and "MB-135” were built under Project 02792 at Pella Leningrad Shipyard and commissioned into service with the Russian Navy fleet.
Main specifications: LOA - 34,4 m, beam - 12.1 m, draft - 4.4 m, opeational speed - 13.5 knots, displacement - 860 tonnes. The ships were designed for towing vessels and floating structures in the high seas and harbors, for SAR operations, fire fighting and icebreaking support.
