Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard lays down first serial MCMV of new generation for RF Navy (photo)
On April 24, Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard held a keel-laying ceremony for a mine countermeasures vessel (MCMV) of new generation for the Russian Navy, the Shipyard told IAA PortNews.
By the Order of Russian Navy Commander Viktor Chirkov the Navy's first new generation serial MCMV is named GEORGY KURBATOV.
The ceremony was attended by St. Petersburg Vice-Governor Sergei Movchan, Head of the Navy Ship Building Directorate Captain Ι Rank Vladimir Tryapichnikov, representatives of RF Ministry of Defence and the United Shipbuilding Corporation, son of Soviet Union Hero Georgy Kurbatov, guest of honour and shipyard employees.
Vladimir Seredokho, Director General of Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard OJSC said the project implementation involves application of the world’s most advanced and state-of-the-art technologies.
“We are sure the ships of this Project will see their development in terms of technologies applied and missions to be carried out,” he said.
The mine countermeasures vessel was designed by Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau. The ship features the most advanced technology and naval architecture and marine engineering, the world's largest reinforced fiberglass hull.
General characteristics: displacement - 890 tonnes, length overall - 61 m, beam – 10m, full load displacement speed – 16.5 knots, crew - 44. In addition to the latest countermine systems, the ship features high maneuverability and enhanced comfort conditions for the crew.
The ship will have a unique and the largest in the world monolithic hull of fiber-glass plastic made by the vacuum infusion method. SNSZ is the only shipyard in Russia to use this technology for hulls of such a size. Monolithic hulls fabricated from glass-reinforced plastic feature higher strength and survivability compared to steel hulls. They also have lower mass (250 t without fitting) and their life cycle exceeds 30 years.
In April 2014, SNSZ OJSC signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defence for the construction of three 12700-design ships. The vessels are scheduled for delivery between 2016 and 2018.
OJSC Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard, a part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, was created in 1912. The shipyard has built over 500 warships and vessels of 43 designs for the Russian Navy and foreign customers. The shipyard is building missile boats, trawlers, passenger and work vessels for various purposes and is about to start the large-scale construction of mine warships of the new generation for the Russian Navy and foreign countries.
