Busan Port total cargo volume up 13.7% to 1.515 mil.TEUs in Feb 2015
The container cargo volume in Feb. 2015, tallied by Busan Port Authority on the 30th, reached 1.51523million TEUs, 13.7% increase year on year. Import and export cargo was 0.682241 TEUs, a 2 percent increase compared to the previous year, and transshipment cargo grew 25.4% to 0.832989 TEUs. In particular, monthly T/S cargo volume in Feb set the highest monthly record and contributed greatly to the cargo volume increase, the company said in its press release.
The ratio of T/S cargo by nation is as follows: China(0.267864 million TEUs), U.S.A(0.114835 million TEUs), Japan(0.11114 million TEUs), and Europe(43,334 TEUs). While China, U.S.A, and Europe increased year on year 63.4%, 3.7%, 20.8% respectively, Japan and Russia decreased 4.0%, 6.2%.
The cargo handling ratio between Busan New Port and North Port in Feb. was 66 to 34 from 64 to 36 last year. Cargo volume at Busan North Port increased by handling 512,133 TEUs in Feb. increasing 12.8% YOY, while New Port processed 1.003097 million TEUs increasing 14.1%.
BPA Operational HQ. director Park Chung-sik stated "We will solidify the status of Busan Port as the largest transshipment hub port in Northeast Asia by carrying out active marketing strategies toward shipping liners and global alliances including 2M, O3 in order to achieve our goal of processing 10 million TEU T/S cargo this year."
