Volga Shipping Company to deploy seven Volgo-Don vessels for operation in coastal areas (photo)
Shipyards and maintenance centers of Volga Shipping Company OJSC complete their task on preparing cargo carriers, tugboats, barges and auxiliary ships of VSC for navigation period of 2015, the Company says.
According to the statement, seven Volgo-Don vessels have undergone modernization and class upgrade. The dry cargo carriers are fitted with GMDSS, radio and navigation equipment, state-of-the-art survival gear. The crews have been trained at the simulation center in Nizhni Novgorod for operation in new navigation areas.
The vessels will have a new class of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping an will be able to operate in coastal areas.
The internavigation period of 2014-2015 was dedicated to interim overhaul (hulls, mechanisms and electric equipment) of 23 vessels of Volgo-Don class and 14 tugboats as well as major overhaul of 24 engines.
By the navigation period of 2015 all vessels of Volga Shipping Company will be surveyed by Russian Maritime Register of Shipping to verify their compliance with the operating rules.
Volga Shipping OJSC is one of the biggest transport companies in Russia. It was founded in 1843. The company transports cargoes along rivers and lakes of the country. In 2014, Volga Shipping carried 6.3 mln t of cargo.
The Company is a part of VBTH – shipping division of Universal Cargo Logistics Holding, international transportation group consolidating a number of Russian railway, stevedoring and logistic companies (the majority stakeholder of VBTH).
