Two-month cargo throughput at Port of Tallinn drops 19.6% to 4.34 million tonnes
Freight traffic at Estonian Port of Tallinn in January-February 2015 decreased by 19.6% compared with the same period last year to 4.34 million tonnes, the Port Authority said.
In February, the port terminals handled 1.9 million tonnes of cargoes. The monthly volume of liquid bulk cargo slumped by 36.4% to 1.19 million tonnes, container traffic fell 17.3% to 17,236 TEUs. The volume of bulk cargo remained at the same level and amounted to 210,600 tonnes. There were 124,384 ship calls.
Port of Tallinn ranks third among largest seaports on the Baltic Sea, next to St. Petersburg and Primorsk. The Port of Tallinn comprises five so-called port zones: Muuga, Old City Harbor, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2014 aggregated throughput of the port of Tallinn reached 28.32 million tonnes.
