The volume of investments into construction of the Vuosaari port (Finland) is equal to 551.1 million euro
Construction of the new Finnish port Vuosaari will cost the port of Helsinki and the city government, partially financing the project, 551.1 million euro, as Antti Makinen, project director of the port of Helsinki reported to the PortNews IAA. According to Mr. Makinen, the project is divided in two parts i.e. the port infrastructure being established on funds of the port of Helsinki, including borrowed funds, so its cost will amount to 313.7 million euro. Establishing of a transport infrastructure is financed on parity basis with the city. The total amount of investments into construction of roads, tunnels and flyovers is equal to 237.4 million euro. Transhipment of container cargoes and cargoes of rо-rо type will be carried out in the new port. The new port will replace the two old Helsinki ports, namely Lansi satama and Sornaisnen satama. "The old ports are not convenient from the point of view of location and unprofitable from the point of view of development, - Antti Makinen says, - however these ports will provide an initial freight traffic to the new port. We expect, that during the first years of operation the Vuosaari port will tranship not less than 2.5 million tons of cargoes". Construction of the port has been carried out since January 2003. Commissioning of the port is planned for 2008.
