Makarov University opens reconstructed Laboratory of Electric Machines
On September 29, 2014, Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping opened the reconstructed Laboratory of Electric Machines, IAA PortNews journalist reports.
The creation of the laboratory was initiated and partially sponsored by Gazprom Marketing & Trading (Gazprom subsidiary). The laboratory was equipped with the support of Dynagas Ltd. (Greece). The development and the manufacture of the equipment was ensured by the scientific and production centre Elektrodvizheniye Sudov CJSC.
The facility includes a laboratory complex simulating electric ship systems and electric propulsion plants providing the cadets with the opportunity to study different operational conditions (free water, rough water, ice conditions, acceleration, stopping). Besides, cadets study emergency operation of vessels, can model propulsion units of tankers, icebreakers, ice class vessels, research vessels of new generation.
Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping was set up through reorganization of two large industry-focused higher educational institutions - St.-Petersburg State University of Waterway Communications (SPSUWC) and Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy (SMA) in the form of affiliation of the Academy to the University. Makarov University cadets have their sailing practice at the vessels of Sovcomflot, Stena Bulk, Dynagas, Teekay, TMS Cardiff Gas.
