Name giving ceremony for LNG carrier Veliky Novgorod has been held today at STX O&S (Jinhae, South Korea). According to Gazprom press center, the vessels will be the fifth in the company’s tanker fleet.
LNG carrier Veliky Novgorod with carrying capacity of 170,200 cbm is fitted with a diesel-electric propulsion plant capable to work on LNG, heavy fuel oil or go work on силовой установкой, способной работать на СПГ, мазуте или газойле. The Veliky Novgorod certified as Ice2 vessel can operate in low-temperature conditions including the Northern Sea Route (in open waters during navigation period).
The vessel’s classification has been carried out in compliance with the standards of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and the Lloyd's Register. The crew of the gas carrier will consist of Russian seafarers.
Gazprom Marketing & Trading (GM&T) will charter the Veliky Novgorod from Sovcomflot. It will be the first tanker in the series of state-of-the-art ice class LNG carriers developed under Gazprom order.
The delivery of the vessel to GM&T is scheduled for the end of this January. Sovcomflot is currently building similar gas carrier, the Pskov, the delivery of which to Gazprom is scheduled for this September.
The share of Gazprom in global production of LNG is about 5%. The company exports LNG to ten countries of the world: Japan, Korea, China, India, Taiwan, Great Britain, USA, Kuwait, UAE, Mexico. The company’s tanker fleet consists of four chartered gas carriers. Gazprom plans to increase its share in the global LNG market to 15% with implementation of Vladivostok-LNG and Baltic LNG projects.
