North-Western Shipping Company announces its cargo transportation up 29% to 6.4 mln t in 2013
In 2013, North-Western Shipping Company OJSC carried 6.4 mln t of cargo (+29%, year-on-year), the company states in its press release.
Export transportations surged by 31% to 3.3 mln t, import – by 25% to 0.9 mln t. Transportation between foreign ports was up 37% (2.2 mln t).
In the 12-month period, the company carried 1.4 mln t of ferrous metal (+30.5%), 0.4 mln t of construction materials (+14.5%), 1.1 mln t of fertilizers (+50%), 0.5 mln t of timber (+44%), 1.6 mln t of grain (+27%).
The company says the growth should be attributed to the deployment of 17 newbuildings including 10 vessels of project DCV36 and 7 vessels of project RSD49.
North-Western Shipping Company is the largest carrier in Russia’s water transport system, specializing in shipping import / export general cargo, bulk and loose dry cargo, tugging of oversized cargo and vessels. The company’s fleet comprises about 100 cargo ships of total DWT 360,000 tonnes, including 84 mixed-sailing "river-sea” vessels, 6 barges, 7 tugs and 3 auxiliary ships.
