Singapore's Green Port Programme starts in July
Singapore first-ever Green Port Programme (GPP) will commence on 1 July with an aim to reduce emission of pollutants from ships calling at the busy port, Seatrade Asia reported.
The GPP, part of the Maritime Singapore Green Initiative backed by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), will offer 15% concession in port dues to ocean-going ships that use type-approved abatement/scrubber technology or clean fuels during the entire port stay (of five days or less). “Participation in the GPP is on a voluntary basis,” MPA announced in a statement Monday. The use of type-approved abatement/scrubber technology is to reduce sulphur dioxide emission and the sulphur content of clean fuels should be less than 1%. The GPP commencing on 1 July will be valid for five years until 30 June 2016.
