Dachser to invest EUR 16 m in new logistics hub in Germany
Logistics provider Dachser is to invest €16 million (US$22.6m) in a new logistics centre in the Greater Frankfurt region, IFW reported.
The Frankfurt Ost logistics centre will be built on a 47,000sq metre site in Erlensee, near Hanau, and will include a 6,660sq metre cross-dock for simultaneous loading and unloading of 68 trucks, as well as a two-storey office building of around 2,000sq metres.
Additional space is available for expansion of both buildings if necessary. And Dachser also has secured an option on an adjacent site with an area of over 2ha.
“During the past five business years, the number of staff at the Dachser CargoCity Süd location has increased by more than 50%. The tonnage transported has almost doubled, and the number of shipments broke through the one million a year barrier for the first time, in 2010,” said Friedrich Wasser, Manager of the Frankfurt logistics centre.
“As a reliable and successful partner to the local economy, we are laying the foundation stone for our further development in the Rhine-Main area.”
Michael Schilling, MD European Network Management & Logistics Systems at Dachser, said: “The Frankfurt Ost logistics centre will link the Rhine-Main region, directly or via hubs, with 38 domestic and 190 European destinations.”
The new logistics centre will create around 300 jobs in the Greater Frankfurt region over the medium term.
