Boxes volume at Russian ports soars 41.9% to 1,9m TEUs
Container throughput of Russian seaports in January-May 2011 increased by 41.9% compared with the same period of 2010, to 1,87 million TEUs, the Association of Commercial Seaports (ASOP) said.
Containers exports rose 46.6% to 0.82 million TEUs, imports - by 44.7% to 0.86 million TEUs, short sea container traffic increased by 11.2% to 0.17 million TEUs. Transit containers grew as much as 4.2 times to 9,000 TEUs versus last year’s figures.
Inbound containerized cargoes accounted for 46.1% of total container throughput, outbound containers – 44.1%, of short sea traffic – 9.3%, transit containers – 0.5%.
In the reporting period container trade in the Arctic Basin amounted to 0.04 million TEUs (+0,6%), in the Baltic Sea – 1,12 million TEUs (+42,8%). Shipments of containers in the Black and Azov Seas soared by 56.2% from a year earlier, to 0,28 million TEUs, in the Pacific – by 37.4% to 0,42 million TEUs. The five-month volume of handled containers at the ports of the Caspian Basin was on a par with last year’s numbers.
The bulk of container flows passes through the port of St. Petersburg – 52.4%. At the same time, during the period the best growth trend was recorded in box throughput of ports of Kaliningrad (an increase of 2.1 times), Vostochny and Novorossiysk (an increase of 1.6 times).
Among the leaders are listed CJSC First Container Terminal that handled in Jan-May 484,700 TEUs (+6,6%), Petrolesport (PLP) – with 324,200 TEUs (an increase of 1.8 times), OJSC Commercial Sea Port of Vladivostok – 162,000 TEUs (+34,7%), LLC Vostochny Stevedoring Company – 132,500 TEUs (+ 1.6 times), Novoroslesexport – 125,400 TEUs (+ 1,9 times), LLC Moby Dick – 93,700 TEUs (+1,8 times), Novorossiysk Forwarding Company – 78,700 TEUs (+35.7%), Baltic Stevedoring Company ltd – 77,800 TEUs (+1.6 times), Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port – 64,900 TEUs (+35.6%), Kaliningrad CSP – 64.800 TEUs (+3.7 times).
