Imports of cars via Ust-Luga terminal grow 5.2 times to 47,500 units
Shipments of imported vehicles through a Multipurpose Handling Terminal "Yug-2" at the port of Ust-Luga (Leningrad region) in January-May, 2011 increased as much as 5.2 times from the same period last year, to 47,52 thousand cars, the Ust-Luga Comp. press-service said.
In May, the terminal handled 7,800 vehicles, 2.9 times more than a year earlier.
The company said it had planned to transship 160,000 imported cars this year.
The multipurpose terminal Yug-2 is designed for handling Ro-Ro cargoes, including new imported cars, containers and general cargo. To date, Yug-2 terminal handles vehicles of the following car makers, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia and Subaru. In 2010 cars throughput of the Ust-Luga terminal totaled 65,521 cars, a 3.8 times growth over 2009’s figures.
