Rosatomflot says crack detected, repair underway
Official investigation into the cause of non-compactness of primary coolant circuit system of the icebreaker Taimyr owned by Rosatomflot (Rosatom Corp.) has been completed, Rosatomflot said Monday adding the leakage did not pose any threat to employees or the environment.
Rosatomflot’s press office disclosed some details. The crack specifications: length - 12-15 mm, width - up to 0.1 mm. The provisional report says the cause of the leak in the icebreaker’s reactor room was due to poor quality of the system installation and material defects. A team of specialists will examine the materials supplied and installed by two Russian firms.

The repair works have been underway, Rosatomflot said, to be completed by June 15. After that the icebreaker’s plant will be operational.
In order to prevent similar situations Rosatomflot will carry out more tests on all nuclear icebreakers of the state-controlled enterprise.
