FCT boxes volume grows 6.6% in Jan-May to 484,671 TEU (Update)
Container traffic at First Container Terminal (FCT, St. Petersburg) in January-May 2011 increased by 6.6% compared to the first 5 months of 2010, to 484,671 twenty-foot equivalent units, the stevedoring company statistics said. In the reporting period FCT handled 304 container ships.
In May, container throughput reached a record high of 115,295 TEUs, up 13% from a year earlier. The terminal handled 58,613 TEUs of exported containers, 56,682 TEUs of imports and 16,571 TEUs of reefer containers. In May, FCT handled 71 vessels, turnover per vessel, on average, was 1,624 TEUs.
Five-month boxes turnover between FCT and Shushary-based "dry port" of Logistika-Terminal totaled 10,374 TEUs. Logistika-Terminal’s throughput in January-April was 35,148 TEUs. In May, the terminal handled 8,865 TEUs.
Now the "dry port" is used as an additional container storage facility, and for repackaging of cargoes. Besides, the terminal increased handling of volumes carried by railroad to 19,083 TEUs, thanks to more imports.
The first specialized terminal was commissioned at Leningrad Seaport in December 1973. In October 1998, First Container Terminal CJSC was formed as a specialized stevedoring company for handling containers. Now FCT is owned by National Container Company. The terminal area encompasses 89 ha, length of berths – 780 meters, the depth at the berths - 11,5 m, the container yard storage capacity - 29,5 TEUs, reefer containers yard - 2850 sockets. The terminals annual boxes throughput is 1.3 million TEUs.
