Maersk promises larger and faster vessels on its Middle East routes
In response to changing customer requirements, and prevailing market conditions, Maersk Line is implementing a number of service changes during the fourth quarter of the year which are designed to benefit customers in the Middle East region. key feature of the revised services is improved transit times from the direct load ports in the Middle East to northern European destinations.n the the Middle East, one of Maersk Line’s priorities has been to optimise its dedicated regional feeder network.
As Mr Woodall observes: “The substantial investments in infrastructure that are being made throughout the Middle East, combined with the higher demand for consumer goods as a result of the improved buying power of the average consumer in the region, are driving imports.ike many other carriers, Maersk Line is also concerned by the drop in freight rates for cargoes moving into the Middle East that has been seen this year.n Mr Woodall’s opinion: “Generally, freight rates cannot be sustained at current levels. If Middle East customers want a choice of quality carriers to pick from, rates on most trades will have to be adjusted in an upwards direction.
