Russian, Korean rescuers continue searching for 6 missing sailors
The rescue ship Yuri Orlenko registered in Vladivostok has joined a search for the six missing crewmen of the Sinegorye cargo ship on Thursday morning, Itar-Tass reports. Eleven sailors have been saved in the last 48 hours, one sailor has died.
A spokesman for the Far Eastern center of the Russian Emergencies Ministry said that a Be-200 amphibious plane would fly to the disaster area on Thursday morning.
The Sinegorye cargo ship sank on October 23 almost 80 miles off the Korean peninsula. It was carrying timber from the Primorye region to China. Suddenly, a storm started. Some of the logs went loose and were washed away. The logs damaged the deck and broke the bulwark. The Sinegorye listed to 20 degrees, one of the hatches were filled with water. All radio contact with the ship was interrupted at 16:00 Vladivostok time.
