NCRW starts grain transportation in flexible containers
NCRW has started container transportation of grain for export via Novorossijsk Commercial Port in certified flexible 10-ton containers МК-14-10, RZD-Partner reports. Five containersmay be placed in one high-sided wagon. According to Sergei Fadeev, director of NCRW transport service center, a special agreement has been concluded for transportation of 15 thou tons of grain by this method; currently the first batch is being loaded at Proletarskaya station to be dispatched to Novorossijsk. The carrier of this 7-thou ton batch is Novorossijsk Transport Group. Major advantage of new technology compared to conventional methods of transportation is availability of storage for accumulating batches at the territory of Novorossijsk Commercial Port for further transportation by water. At the same time, unloading of grain at the storage while waiting for shipload lot provides the possibility to release rolling stock without delay, thus speeding up wagon turnover. As the PR service reports, this new technology may serve as alternative to "wagon–vessel" method which depends on weather and availability of the vessels. Besides, container transportation of grain in high-sided wagons will triple RZD’s profit as compared with profit received from inert cargo, which is currently transported by high-sided wagons, experts think. According to Sergei Fadeev, this technology will later allow to “switch over” additional volumes of grain cargo from motor transport. Another advantage is water-resistance of containers, which at the same time let the cargo “breathe” – significant quality for Novorossijsk winter conditions.
