Cargo turnover of Karelian transport sector up 3% in Jan.-Sept. 2006
Cargo turnover of Karelian transport sector grew by 3% in January-September 2006 to 19.809 million t-km, Karelian Statistics Bureau reports according to PRIME-TASS. Cargo turnover of railway transport grew by 3.5% to 19.677 million t-km, motor transport – by 1.1% to 132.4 million t-km, air transport – decreased by 7.5% to 7.4 million t-km. Volume of cargo transported by Karelian companies grew over the reported period by 1.5% to 13.589 million tons including railway transportation – by 3.5% to 12.974 million tons, air transport – by 1.5% to 1.2 thou tons, motor transport – by 4.3% to 614.5 thou tons. The share of ore is the highest in railway transportation (50.7% of total volume), construction materials – 31.4%, timber – 9.9%. Tariffs for cargo transportation grew in January-September 2006 by 16% against the level registered before this period, including that of railway transport – by 8.9%, inland waterways transport – by 15.7%, motor transport – by 16.3%.
