Two tonnes of fuel oil spill in Amur Bay of Vladivistok
Over two tonnes of fuel oil spilled into the Amur Bay in Vladivostok, while a tanker was being filled at the Primorsknefteprodukt enterprise, the company’s press service told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
The Promorsky (Maritime) Shipping Company is the owner of the tanker, which is registered at the port of Nakhodka, the press service said.
“The fuel overfilled the tank and spilled over due to the crew’s negligence,” the pres service said.
Rescue motor boats are installing floating booms around a spill that spread over 1,000 square meters.
Rescue teams of the Emergencies Ministry and the Russian environmental watchdog arrived to the site of incident.
A huge environmental incident occurred in Vladivostok in this very region last September, when 42 tonnes of fuel oil from the storage facilities of the Russian Pacific Fleet leaked into the Pervaya River.
A lot of booms were installed to prevent the spill from reaching the sea. But several dozens tonnes of fuel oil entered it and covered a three-kilometre line of beaches. It took over a month to clean the contaminated area.
Vladivostok’s damage was estimated at 8 million roubles.
