Damen Shipyards Ocean (Ukraine) to build four chemical tankers for Norwegian company
Damen Shipyards Ocean (Nickolaev, Ukraine) has signed a contract for construction of a series of four chemical tankers with Stock Nilsen of Norway, the shipyard’s management reports according to RZD-Partner. This contract has been concluded within the framework of a program for further extension of specialized activities through loading of primary facilities (construction of large-capacity vessels). The program implies construction of 16 chemical tankers with a deadweight up to 50 thou tons. According to the company’s management, this new program provisions perspective loading of the shipyard up to 2012. Earlier the company used to build average-capacity vessels. Metal sheets necessary for such production had the following dimensions: 2.5x6 m. New level orders imply application of 3.5x12 m sheets, the company says.
