New strategy of Russia’s shipbuilding development – Viktor Khristenko
Russia’s industry and energy ministry has developed a Strategy for improvement of shipbuilding industry specifying optimal selection of potential market niches and mechanisms of sate support, Viktor Khristenko, Russia’s industry and energy minister, has told in an interview to Rossijskaya Gazeta, according to ITAR-TASS. The strategy covers three main issues of the branch. First of all, prompt legislative changes: from 2008 the federal budget is to cover part interest payments under credits taken for purchase or construction of vessels. It is also proposed to allocate budget funds in order to increase authorized capital of leasing companies and to cover part of lease payments of Russian shipping companies, Khristenko says. The second aspect is contribution into the industry’s technological modernization. It is proposed that federal budget should finance purchase of licenses for advanced vessel production technologies, which our country does not have today. The last issue is optimization of shipbuilding complex structure. Khristenko says he hopes for quality changes in shipbuilding based on implementation of the Ministry’s ideas.
