S. Korean shipyards to import more Chinese steel next year
South Korea's major shipyards are likely to increase the use of cheaper ship steel from China in 2007 as the price of Japanese products rises, industry sources said Thursday.
Hyundai Heavy Industries Co, the world's leading shipbuilder, is expected to import 500,000 tons of Chinese steel plates this year and expand the annual imports from China by 300,000 tons next year.
