Cargo turnover of Riga port up 6.6% in January-September
Cargo turnover of Riga port amounted in January-September to 19.486 million tons (+6.6% against year-on-year result), RZhD-Partner reports. The highest result was demonstrated in transshipment of bulk cargo – 12.042 million tons (+11%) including coal – 8.52 million tons (+7.2%) and chemical cargo (mostly mineral fertilizers) – 952.5 thou tons (-9.7%). The port handled 3.774 million tons of general cargo (-21.8%) including timber – 2.256 million tons (-25.1%), container cargo – 1.25 million tons (+1.8%). Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo amounted to 3.671 million tons (+41.1%) including oil products – 3.624 million tons (+46.2%). In 2005 cargo turnover of Riga port grew by 1.8% to 24.429 million tons.
