Yingkou volume up 29pc through August
YINGKOU port, in China's northeastern Liaoning province, saw its container throughput rise 29 per cent year on year over the first eight months of 2006 to 678,000 TEU.
The amount of general cargo the port handled over the January to August period amounted to 64.8 million tonnes, a Xinhua report said.
The Yingkou Port Group, which runs the 41-berth operation, says it forecasts next year's volume will reach one million TEU, adding plans are afoot to build 10 new berths to handle the growth in containers and steel goods.
