Russian ports handle 3.1 million TEU in 2006
In 2006 transshipment of containers via Russian ports totaled 3.1 million TEU (2.5-growth compared to 1.3 million TEU in 2002), representative of National Container Company reported at “TransRussia-2007”, the 12th international conference on transport and logistics Transshipment of containers via Russia’s North-Western terminals (including Russian transit containers handled in the ports of Finland and Baltic states) grew to 2.03 million TEU from 1.587 million TEU in 2005. Over the reported period Russia’s southern terminals handled 226 thou TEU compared to 161.6 thou TEU in 2005. Transshipment of containers via the terminals of Russia’s Far East totaled 609 thou TEU (613.2 thou TEU – in 2005). Other terminals - 60 thou TEU (in 2005 – 46.1 thou TEU). Transboundary railway transportation grew to 175 thou TEU compared to 147.4 thou TEU in 2005. In 2006, containerized cargo made 30% of total cargo handled at the ports, while in Europe it makes about 70%. According to NCC, annual growth of container transportation via world ports made 10-12% in last 10 years.
