Duisport Group posts 1pc higher EBIT in 2006
The Duisport Group, which owns and operates of the Port of Duisburg, in Germany has reported that earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) grew by one per cent to EUR10 million (US$13.3 million).
Cargo throughput in the ports of the Duisport Group rose 10 per cent in 2006. Ships, trains and trucks handled a total of 49.7 million metric tons of cargo, with ships and trains accounting for 25.7 million tons, up from 23.7 million tons in 2005.
Barges moved 15.6 million tons, up from 14.8 million tons in 2005, and the railroads transported 10.1 million tons of cargo, up from 8.9 million tons in 2005.
Container volume came to nearly 800,000 TEU in 2006, which the port said was nearing full capacity. Last year, all four container terminals initiated and partly completed expansion programmes, including the addition of five acres of storage area at the Rhein Ruhr Terminal, a second crane and new tracks.
Capital spending by the Duisport Group grew to over EUR45 million in the 2006 fiscal year, up from EUR17.9 million euros in 2005, mainly due to the launch of the Logport II remediation and development programme, and by heavy investment in port and railroad infrastructure, a group statement said.
