Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines helps boost Shenzhen in February
Chiwan Container Terminal Co. Ltd (CCT) in Shenzhen handled 460,000 TEU in February, a 53.3 per cent increase over the same month a year ago.
The strong performance at the mainland China terminal was partly attributed to Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) launching a new European service that began calling at CCT at the start of last month.
The service rotation is: Tianjin, Shanghai, Ningbo, Chiwan, Port Kelang, Bandar Abbas, Dubai, Suez, Damitta, Malta, Misurata, Felixstowe, Hamburg, Antwerp, Castellon, Genoa, Port Said, Suez, Jeddah, Bandar Abbas, Dubai and back to Tianjin.
In other developments, Wangfoong Transportation Co. Ltd inaugurated its South China Shuttle Service that runs between Jiuzhou port and CCT/SCT every day from Monday to Friday also on February 1.
On the same day a symposium between Chiwan Container Terminal and container transportation firms based in Shenzhen was held in Qingqing Resort Park in Shekou by CCT and the Shenzhen Container Trailer Association.
One of CCT's parent companies, China Merchants Holdings, is also developing the China Merchants Qianhaiwan Logistics Park near the container terminals. The park, a five-year project that is currently under development, will cover an area of 3.5 square kilometres, of which 2.5 square kilometres is being developed into a port auxiliary service area. Total investment in the facility will be over CNY4.5 billion (US$581.3 million).
