Deutsche Afrika-Linien sets sail for Asia with CMA CGM
The German shipping line Deutsche Afrika-Linien (DAL) is to enter the Asian market for the first time in its 82-year history by participating as a vessel operator in the New Europe Mascarene Oceania (Nemo) service with CMA CGM.
DAL operates liner services between North Europe and the Mediterranean to south and east Africa and the Indian Ocean. "The Nemo service will offer the extension to and from South East Asia, New Zealand and Australia. The shipping line also operates in various cross trades to complement its liner services," a company statement said.
DAL said that with a young and modern Nemo fleet, it will offer import services into Port Kelang from New Zealand, Australia, and Jakarta. It will also offer export services from Port Kelang to Chennai, Colombo, Djibouti, Jeddah, Damietta, La Spezia, Tilbury and Hamburg. In addition, a comprehensive transshipment service to major Mediterranean ports will be offered.
DAL said it has appointed Ben Line Agencies to act as its agent in both Malaysia and Singapore.
