Bien Dong Shipping Co. (Vietnam) expands container shipping service abroad
Bien Dong Shipping Co., a member of the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, plans to open a container transportation route between Southeast Asia and continental Asia.
Bien Dong will begin developing its container services from Southeast Asia to Western Asia towards the end of this year, and complete its network of transportation to small auxiliary ports.
It will conduct market studies to develop its vessel fleet to provide services to Europe and North America by 2010.
For the Thailand-Vietnam and Vietnam-Singapore routes, Bien Dong will replace its two existing vessels with larger ones and increase the exchanges of sites with other vessel firms in a bid to increase its shares.
With its current capacity, Bien Dong is striving to attain a turnover of VND680 billion (US$42.48 million) this year, a year-on-year increase of 30.9 percent.
The company now has seven container ships with a total capacity of around 5,000 TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units).
