Murmansk plans massive development of new ports and terminals
The Murmansk regional administration plans to attract more than 1,5 billion USD to the development of new ports and terminals along the Kola Bay. The projected facilities will serve both the petroleum and coal industry, as well as container shipping.
Murmansk governor Yurii Yevdokimov this week met with Russian Minister of Transport Igor Levitin to discuss infrastructure development in Murmansk Oblast. Among the issues discussed was the possible use of federal funding and funding from the Russian Investment Fund for the projects. According to Murmannews.ru, the meeting participants agreed that a management company for regional infrastructure development will have to be established.
Part of the investment plans is the construction of a 564 million USD oil terminal, a 480 million USD coal terminal and the development of railway infrastructure worth 420 million USD. Also the construction of a new major container terminal is on the agenda. All the new facilities are projected built on the western side of the Kola Bay.
In the meeting Murmansk governor Yurii Yevdokimov repeated that the Murmansk Sea Trade Port will have to get status as a free trade zone.
