Ro-ro/container vessel collides with bulk carrier near Amsterdam
Grimaldi Naples' ro-ro/container vessel Repubblica di Venezia is reported to have been in collision with the bulk carrier New Venturer 1 on Saturday in the North Sea Canal between the Dutch ports of Amsterdam and Ymuiden. The 1987-built, 48,622-gt Venezia sustained hull damage in way of one of its upper car decks. The vessel had called at Dakar, Lome, Point Noire and Luanda and was inbound for Amsterdam at the time of the incident. The collision came just two days after a similar Grimaldi ship, Repubblica di Genova, capsized in Antwerp while discharging cars and containers. The crew had time to abandon ship and there were no casualties.
