Zim orders two 10,000-TEU vessels from Hyundai Shipyards
The board of Zim Integrated Shipping Services has given the green light for the purchase of two 10,000-TEU container vessels worth a total US$266.4 million, which are expected to be delivered in early 2010.
A company statement said the board also agreed on an option to buy a third vessel from South Korea's Hyundai Shipyards.
A company spokesman explained that with this purchase, Zim's container capacity - in terms of TEU - would increase by 30 per cent.
In June 2006, the company announced plans to buy a total of eight new container vessels for US$1 billion.
