Belarusian-Lithuanian commission discuss trade-economic cooperation
A meeting of the bilateral Belarusian-Lithuanian commission for trade-economic cooperation has been started in Vilnius. Deputy foreign minister Andrei Evdochenko is the chairman of the Belarusian party, economy vice-minister Vitautas Nauduzhas leads the Lithuanian party.
Participants of the meeting intend to consider the expanding the trade-economic ties, the attracting the Lithuanian investments in Belarus, the improving the transit of Belarusian goods through the Lithuanian territory including using the competitive rates for transit and trans-shipment of Belarusian export cargos through the Klaipeda Seaport. The sides are set to discuss the opening and functioning the border checkpoints, the signing the bilateral agreements on cooperation in the sphere of science and technologies, the cooperation in nuclear sphere and radiation security, the navigation issues.
The meeting of the commission will be running through March 7.
Lithuania is among ten main trade partners of Belarus. In 2006 the bilateral trade made up $603 million. The Belarusian export reached $432,7 million, or 23% up. In 2006, Lithuania ranked 8th among non-CIS countries on Belarus’ trade partners main list.
The main Belarusian export articles to Lithuania are oil products, crude oil, ethylene polymers, tractors, tires, timbering and also potash fertilizer, aluminum metal constructions, construction materials (cement, lime), consumer goods (refrigerators, men’s and women’s wear), foodstuffs (vegetables, fruits, mineral water, salt).
The main Lithuanian export articles to Belarus are electric power, wheat, printer’s ink, tobacco goods, cotton wool, slag wool, plastic packages and others.
