Russian register of shipping: results of year
Mikhail Romanovsky, President of the Union of the Ship Owners of the RF, summed up the results of operation with the law on the RF International Register of Shipping, RZD-Partner reports.
142 vessels were registered at the new register by January 1, 2007. Most of them are charter vessels and river-sea class vessels.
He said that there are less sea vessels which fly Russian flag (17 more vessels started flying foreign flags in 2006).
New law of the RF International Register of Shipping causes customs and insurance obstacles.
Mikhail Romanovsky positively estimated results if Russian shipping companies. 28 new vessels were constructed in 2006 (total dwt reached 1.4 mln tons). 18 new vessels (total dwt will be 1.5 mln tons ) will be delivered to the RF shipping companies in 2007.
Totally Russia controls 1546 vessels, total dwt is 14.4 mln tons. 55.4 % of total tonnage fly foreign flags (the figure was 18.4% in 1992).
