XICT (China) adds eight cranes to container operation
Xiamen International Container Terminals (XICT) at Haicang Port, which is located inside in the Xiamen Special Economic Zone of Fujian province, has recently taken delivery of two post-Panamax quay cranes and six rubber-tyre gantry cranes.
The new container handling equipment raises the total number of cranes in operation at XICT's two-berth facility to 38.
"These new cranes represent the very latest in terminal-handling equipment and will enhance XICT's efficiency in handling the influx of cargo generated by the continued growth in trade between Xiamen, Europe and the Mediterranean, as well as the increasing number of mega-vessels deployed by the shipping lines," said XICT general manager Raymond Chan.
The two post-Panamax cranes have a tandem-lift capacity of 61 tonnes and stand 42 metres above the rail with an outreach of 63 metres to span 23 rows of containers. The new rubber-tyre gantry cranes are capable of stacking one-over-five containers.
"With seven weekly European and Mediterranean services, XICT will soon be bringing on-stream a new deep-water container berth with a berth length of 443 metres and a depth alongside of 17.5 metres. This new addition will facilitate Xiamen Port in becoming a major gateway for southeast China region," Mr Chan added.
XICT is a joint venture between Hutchison Delta Ports (HDP), which operates three coastal and three river ports in Southern China, and Xiamen Haicang Port Company. Parent company of HDP, the Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) Group, has established operational bases in a total of 45 ports worldwide.
