Investments into Lithuania's transport infrastructure to make over $3.9 billion from 2007 to 2013. The largest sums to be allocated for construction of Via Baltica highway and Rail Baltica railway, as well as for construction of highways to link the Eastern and Western parts of the country. According to RZhD-Partner.Ru, this information has been provided Regina Sklepovich, head of PR department of Lithuania's Ministry of Transport and Communications. In 2007-2013 it is planned to invest about $117.8 million into construction of Via Baltica, about $607 million into modernization of East-West (IX corridor).
Considerable investments are planned for modernization of regional and local lines: asphaltic of unimproved roads and development of links with international corridors – over $357 million. Rail Baltica project is included into the list of priority trans-European projects. In 2007-2013 almost $178 million to be invested into its implementation. Overall investments into modernization of railways and improvement of passenger trains speed to reach about $88.5 million. Investments into air transport in 2007-2013 to make $64.2 million. $ 153.5 million to be invested into the development of the sea port of Lithuania.
