Cargo turnover within Volga-Don Basin of Russia’s IWW in navigation season of 2019 fell by 9.7% to 14.452 million tonnes
The navigation season of 2019 in the Volga-Don Basin of Russia’s inland water ways closed on 7 December 2019 (at the Volgograd system – on December 10), says press center of Rosmorrechflot (Federal Marine and River Transport Agency).
According to the statement, hydrometeorological conditions in the basin were quite favorable but cargo turnover decreased by 9.7% to 14.452 million tonnes. Meanwhile cargo traffic on the canal grew by 0.5%, year-on-year.
In the reporting period, 85,816 locking operations were performed (100.2% vs the previous year) with 10,474 ships conveyed through the locks (-4.7%, year-on-year).
Total length of inland water ways within the basin is 2,187.5 km including 500 km of waterways with guaranteed dimentions.
The scope of dredging performed in the Basin under the state contract totaled 612,560 cbm.
Works on maintenance of waterways, navigation and hydrographic support involves 29 ships.
